The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be released for both Nintendo Wii U and the Nintendo Switch. If you’re wondering whether buying the new console to get more out of this game will be a wise decision, perhaps you would like to know that the Zelda Switch resolution won’t be 1080p. Nintendo has confirmed that its upcoming Switch console will not run The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at full 1080p resolution.
Nintendo confirmed this in a statement provided to IGN. It said that the game will run at 900p on the Switch when it’s docked while the Wii U version will only go up to 720p. The company also mentioned that gamers on Switch will get “higher quality environmental sounds” and will thus have a more realistic and enhanced gameplay feel.
The company did point out that while some small onscreen buttons will be different on both consoles, the overall gameplay experience will more or less be same for the Wii U and the Switch. Both versions will run at 30 frames-per-second so those crossing their fingers for 1080p/60fps performance can give up hope now.
Keep in mind though that a game’s overall quality doesn’t entirely depend on its resolution and frame rate so don’t discount The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild just yet.
