Xiaomi’s big product unveil at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 wasn’t a smartphone or a tablet but a modular and ridiculously thin television that it’s calling the Mi TV 4. The TV measures just 4.9mm at its thinnest point and features a frameless design which allows for an essentially edgeless display.
Powered by the Android TV smart TV platform, Xiaomi has slapped on its PatchWall software skin which uses deep machine learning technologies to make personalized content recommendations to users.
It’s modular like Xiaomi’s other TVs. This enables customers to swap the internal components when they want to upgrade for want of HDR or Dolby Atmos support without having to replace the entire TV and since the display makes up 80 percent of the cost of a conventional TV, it’s much cheaper as well.
All of the internal components like the motherboard, processor, and speakers are packed inside the bar which also houses all of the ports and connects to the TV display with just one cable that’s capable of carrying all signals.
"XIAOMI BRINGS FEATURES PEOPLE WANT, WITH AN AGGRESSIVE PRICING STRATEGY"Xiaomi will also be shipping an independent home theater system with the Mi TV 4 that supports Dolby Atmos surround sound technology for an immersive 3D audio experience.
The company has confirmed that the 65 inch Xiaomi Mi TV 4 will ship later this year in China for “well under” $2,000. Xiaomi will also sell the TV without the home theater system for, again, “well under” $1,500. Cheaper 55 inch and 49 inch models will be available as well. The company has yet to confirm if and when the Mi TV 4 will make it to the United States. In the meantime, we can certainly say that Xiaomi brings features people want, with an aggressive pricing strategy.
