One of the advantages that the Xbox One has over the PS4 is that there is backwards compatibility support. This means that gamers who wish to relive Xbox 360 titles on the Xbox One will be able to do so as long as the title is backwards compatible. This is a pretty fun feature and is also one that Xbox boss Phil Spencer wants to keep around for as long as possible.
Taking to Twitter, one gamer asked Spencer if backwards compatibility would be available for future consoles, in which Spencer replied in the affirmative. While Spencer couldn’t make any promises since it is unclear as to what the future holds, as far as he’s concerned backwards compatibility is a feature he’d like to keep around.
@Andrew_Gilletti It’s challenging to predict the future but for me compatibility is a feature we should preserve as long as possible.

Spencer was quoted as saying, “It’s challenging to predict the future but for me compatibility is a feature we should preserve as long as possible.” As it stands only Xbox 360 games are backwards compatible with the Xbox One, and that’s only if the publisher/developer decides that they want to support the game, otherwise it doesn’t really matter.
There was talk about potential backwards compatibility with the original Xbox, but last we checked it was simply a feature that Spencer would like to see become a reality, but no work is being done on it right now.
