Over the past few years, we have heard reports about how vinyl sales are on the rise. Now according to new reports, it seems that over in the UK, vinyl sales are at a 25-year high, meaning that the number of vinyl records sold is the highest it has ever been since at least 25 years ago.
The numbers, according to the BPI, show that in 2016, more than 3.2 million vinyl records were sold. This supposedly represents a 53% increase from the previous year, with David Bowie’s Blackstar album being the most popular. That being said despite the rise in sales, vinyl still represents a fraction of overall music sales, about 2.6% to be exact.
However given that maybe the younger generation aren’t familiar with the format, it isn’t surprising. Let’s not forget that collecting vinyl also means having to own a turntable and purchasing vinyl records, which can add up to be quite a lot of money that some people just can’t justify.
That being said, there are some music lovers out there who are pretty adamant about how some songs do sound better of vinyl which offers a “warmer” tone compared to digital music, but we guess that’s just personal preference at the end of the day.
