Early last year Google announced some changes to its Google Maps app in which they were integrating car services into the app. This means that in addition to searching for your destination, you will also be able to hail a car service from the likes of Uber or Lyft, just to name a few.
In an announcement on Google’s Blog, it seems that Uber’s integration in Google Maps has gone one step further in which you can not only book an Uber car from the app itself, but you will also be able to pay for it without having to leave Google Maps. This means that you can save your time from a lot of app switching.
According to Google, “We’re also trying out a new integration that lets you book, complete and pay for an Uber ride without ever leaving Google Maps—even if you don’t have the Uber app installed on your device. Once you sign into your existing Uber account (or create one), you can book an Uber ride, track your driver on the map, and connect with your driver—all from within the Google Maps app.”
These changes should already be live so if you want to search for your destination and call for an Uber next time, you’ll be able to do so without even having to fire up the Uber app. Interestingly while Lyft is spotted on Google’s Blog, there was no mention if it will work the same way.
