In case you thought the idea was over and done with, that isn’t the case. During a Q&A session at CES 2017, The Verge asked T-Mobile’s CEO about possibly revisiting the idea of a Sprint merger following the rumors that they could reattempt it under President Donald Trump and a new FCC, to which John Legere basically replied that he was open to the idea.
Legere was quoted as saying, “We’re strong. Our brand is strong. We’re growing tremendously. And yes.. We will consider continued strong individual growth as a company or various forms of consolidation around our brand and platform of growth. And so that you pretty clearly have to say that is one of many potential future outcomes of the industry structure. But who knows. We’ll wait and see”
Now whether or not this merger will happen remains to be seen, but Legere isn’t the only one open to the idea. Last year it was reported that Sprint’s owner, Japan’s SoftBank, is still hoping that the merger will happen.
