Steam is a pretty popular service among PC gamers and it’s not like gamers are going to ditch it anytime soon. Actually, it appears that they’re flocking to it in even greater numbers. A new Steam concurrent user record has been set at 14 million. What this means is that more than 14 million people were logged into Steam on the very same day. This has never happened before in the history of this service so it’s a pretty big milestone.
The report shows that the most users logged in at the same time on Steam yesterday, January 7th. The number was over 14.2 million and it’s the highest that Steam has ever seen.
A possible explanation for the spike could be the cold, winter storm that’s lashing the east coast of the United States. It’s keeping a lot of people indoors and gaming is certainly one of the best ways to kill spare time.
The last Steam concurrent users record was set in January 2016 when more than 12.3 million people were logged into the service at the same time. The last time Valve confirmed the total number of Steam users it stood at 125 million but since that was back in February 2015, one can say with surety that the number is much higher now.
