Not taking into account the various animated Star Wars series and movies, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the first time a live-action Star Wars movie has been released, in which the characters aren’t necessarily part of the main story (as in it isn’t part of the “Episode” Star Wars movies). So safe to say that many were curious as to how well it would do.
Turns out that there was really nothing to be worried about because according to the latest numbers, it seems that Rogue One has managed to earn a little over $1 billion worldwide. Not only does this make it a hit amongst the Star Wars movie franchises, but it also made it the fourth movie released in 2016 to pull in that kind of big bucks.
It is also the fourth Disney movie to have crossed the billion dollar mark and joins the ranks of Captain America: Civil War (Disney owns Marvel Entertainment), Finding Dory, and Zootopia. As IGN notes, The Jungle Book nearly made the cut at $966.6 million. That being said the next Star Wars movie that isn’t part of the main story will be a standalone Han Solo movie which is expected to be released in 2018.
Given that Han Solo has such a huge following and fanbase since the original Star Wars trilogy was launched, we have no doubt that this movie will most likely end up being a hit as well.
