However unlike Apple who is rumored to jump aboard the OLED train this year, Sony’s OLED efforts will only manifest itself in its 2018 flagship phones. This means that this year’s Sony phones will most likely not sport the technology. Just like Apple, Sony has also been relying on the use of LCDs (read our article on the difference between OLED and LCD).
It is unclear as to who will be providing the OLED panels to Sony, or if the company could be interested in making it themselves. In addition to the OLED rumors, Sony’s flagship phone for 2018 is also expected to feature enhanced processor performance and “superior” battery life, but we guess we’re still quite a long way off from finding out exactly what that means.
In the meantime Sony has somewhat reduced their focus on their smartphones. Last year the company announced that they would be pulling out of certain markets such as India, China, and the US.
