Thanks to the efforts of carmakers, EV chargers are now being positioned in more places which means that range anxiety is slowly starting to become a thing of the past. However as we have pointed out before, the fact that EV chargers aren’t quite as ubiquitous as petrol stations means that sometimes it can be a tad inconvenient.
However the good news is that Shell wants to do something about it. In a report from the Financial Times (paywall; via Engadget), Shell confirmed that they are planning to install EV chargers at its petrol stations in the UK, with first installations expected to take place before summer this year.
The specifics are unclear but according to Shell director John Abbott, he has implied that denser, urban areas will be a priority before moving onto other areas. It is an interesting move on Shell’s end especially when you consider that the proliferation in EVs means that the need for petrol will eventually go away.
However it is possible that maybe Shell is starting to shift their strategy and get themselves ready for the future in which EVs will become a standard, but either way this is good news for EV owners in the UK.
