One of the rumored features of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 is that it will come with a new voice assistant called Bixby. We have learnt that it will be more than just standard voice assistant as it will be able to do things such as recognize objects through the smartphone’s camera.
Turns out the previous rumor might not have been so far-fetched because according to the latest reports, Samsung has filed for a trademark for the name “Bixby Vision” over in Europe. Granted it doesn’t necessarily confirm anything, but it really doesn’t leave much to the imagination.
The extent of Bixby’s capabilities remain unknown, but it does sound like it’s shaping up to be quite impressive. For those unfamiliar, Samsung had previously relied on S Voice in the past which safe to say did not match up or get the same amount of attention as Siri, Google Now/Assistant, Cortana, or even Amazon’s Alexa which is a relatively newcomer.
However back in 2016 Samsung had acquired Viv Labs which was put together by the former creators of Siri, which led to speculation that Samsung could leverage their acquisition by introducing their AI to the Galaxy S8. Take it with a grain of salt, but with Samsung confirming the Galaxy S8 being a no-show at MWC 2017, we guess there’s still some waiting we have to do.
