Samsung would certainly like to forget about the Galaxy Note 7. The handset could have been the best device it ever put out but it ended up costing the company billions of dollars due to battery defects that just kept blowing up the device. There was speculation that Samsung could kill the Galaxy Note series following this fiasco but the company has confirmed the Galaxy Note 8 release for 2017.
The company held its much-awaited press conference earlier today which revealed the full report of the investigation it conducted into the Galaxy Note 7’s tendency to catch fire. The investigation showed that there were two different battery defects that caused the Galaxy Note 7’s demise.
Samsung has now outlined several of the measures it’s going to take to ensure that this doesn’t happen again with any of its smartphones. It has reiterated time and again that this has been a learning experience for the company and that customers should not be worried about facing the same problem again.
Head of Samsung’s mobile division D.J. Koh also mentioned today that there’s going to be a successor to the Galaxy Note 7. “I will bring back a better, safer and very innovative Note 8,” he said, confirming without a shadow of doubt that the Galaxy Note 8 is going to be released at some point later this year.
We can expect to hear more about the company’s upcoming flagship phablet in the second half of this year.
