We’ve seen how Google Assistant is more than just a voice assistant as users can use it in Google’s messenger app Allo, and it seems that Samsung’s Bixby will work along those lines as well. According to SamMobile, they have learnt how Bixby will be able to use the Galaxy S8’s camera for visual searches, such as to identify objects and text.
Exactly what will you use this for remains to be seen, but given similar efforts by Google in past with their Goggles technology, maybe Bixby can be used by the camera app to identify objects and let the user know more about it and where to purchase. With text, we guess it can also be used to perform translations on the fly instead of having to launch a separate app, but we’re just guessing.
For those unfamiliar with Bixby, it is rumored to be Samsung’s new voice assistant that will be replacing S Voice. It is also supposed to be the fruits of Samsung’s acquisition of Viv Labs. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but we should be finding out the official details in the next couple of months.
