[CES 2017] When you think of the brand Polar, you might be thinking about the various fitness wearables that the company has launched over the years, whether it be a chest strap to measure your heart rate, or the Android Wear-powered Polar M600 fitness-focused smartwatch. However the company is back with a new wearable, and it’s not what you think.
Polar has recently announced the Team Pro Shirt, which as you can tell from the image above is not your typical fitness track or chest strap that has been produced by the company so far, instead it is a shirt with built-in sensors that will help to track your performance. However given its name, the focus on the Team Pro Shirt seems to be aimed more at professional athletes in team sports, where the data collected can be monitored and viewed by the team’s coach and management.
The data is sent wirelessly from the shirt to an app on the iPad called the Polar Team Pro app. This system has actually been used by various sporting leagues since 2010. The shirt will feature a heart rate monitor as well as a sensor on the back of the collar where motion tracking data is recorded.
This is used to determine how fast the player is running, their distance, and acceleration. Polar’s Team Pro Shirt is expected to be made available this coming March ranging from small to extra large, with additional sizes expected to be released in May.
