Ahead of the Assassin’s Creed movie’s release, Ubisoft waxed poetic about it and claimed that it would be a milestone as far as video game movie adaptations are concerned. Based on the reviews and ratings, it clearly wasn’t the case but it seems that Ubisoft is willing to give it another shot with The Division.
It was confirmed last year that a movie based on The Division would be made and now according to a report from Variety, it looks like Ubisoft might have nabbed themselves an Oscar-winning director in the form of Stephen Gaghan. If you’re unfamiliar with the name, Gaghan was the screenwriter and director for Syriana, and more recently he also directed Gold which starred Matthew McConaughey and Bryce Dallas Howard.
According to Gaghan in a press release, “The game has been an enormous success, in large part due to the visual landscape they created, their vision of a mid-apocalyptic Manhattan. It’s immersive, wonderfully strange, and yet familiar, filled with possibilities.” Other big names attached to the movie include Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain.
It is unclear as to when exactly The Division movie will be released, but here’s hoping that it will perform better than Assassin’s Creed, which also had some pretty big names attached to it.
