Nokia’s Android Smartphone Has Been Launched In China

nokia-6-officialIt is widely expected that Nokia will be announcing new smartphones at MWC 2017, but it looks like they might have let the cat out of the bag early. It seems that over in China, HMD (the company licensed to make Nokia phones) has announced a new Android smartphone called the Nokia 6.

The Nokia 6 doesn’t look too shabby and sports an aluminum body. According to HMD who described the manufacturing process, “It takes 55 minutes to machine a single Nokia 6 from a solid block of 6000 series aluminium. It then receives two separate anodising processes, taking over ten hours to complete, with each phone being polished no less than five times. The end result is an aluminium unibody with the highest level of visual and structural quality.”

The phone’s specs aren’t that fancy. It features a 5.5-inch 2.5D curved display with a Full HD resolution. Under the hood, a Snapdragon 430 chipset can be found with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, microSD support, and a 16MP rear-facing camera. We’re not sure why they went with the Snapdragon 430, but presumably it could be due to savings on cost.

The phone is priced at 1,699 yuan which is about $245 and it seems that for now, it will be exclusive to China. That being said, we heard that Nokia has plans to launch as many as 5 smartphones this year, so we guess there is still time for the company to launch a flagship worthy handset.
