There has been a lot of speculation recently about Mark Zuckerberg’s goals for the future. The social network he co-founded and runs is doing very well so the Facebook CEO does split his time between that and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the social organization he founded with his wife. There was speculation that Zuckerberg might even be considering a presidential bid.
Rumors about Zuckerberg running for president start after he announced that he was going to visit nearly 30 U.S. states that he hasn’t been to. To some, this felt like an early campaign tour and they felt that it could morph into a proper presidential campaign in a couple of years.
Elections in the United States are not due for another four years so there’s quite a bit of time for any potential challengers to President Donald Trump to start laying down the roots for a campaign.
Zuckerberg himself has cleared up the confusion surrounding his rumored presidential bid. “No,” he said, when asked by BuzzFeed News if he was planning to run for president adding that “I’m focused on building our community at Facebook and working on the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.”
It’s interesting to note that Zuckerberg hasn’t explicitly ruled out a run in the future so it’s not entirely off the table and given that he’s younger than most in the political establishment, he still has quite a lot of time on his hands before he decides whether or not this is something he wants to do.
