There is a reason why companies like DJI have introduced features such as geofencing. It is because sometimes some drone users can be rather irresponsible and fly drones into areas where they’re not supposed to, which can either be a nuisance to others or in some cases be potentially dangerous.
A good example would be over in China where recently a man was arrested after he had been caught flying his drone too close to a passenger jet. In fact “too close” might be a bit of an understatement because the drone was actually in the path of the plane that was on landing approach.
Thankfully nothing untoward happened and the airline company, Capital Airlines, criticized the actions of the drone user. After the footage had gone viral, the Zhejiang police verified the authenticity of the video and tracked down the owner of the drone leading to his arrest on charges of endangering public safety.
In a statement released to IBTimes UK, DJI said, “Recent footage from China claims to depict an unmanned aerial flight close to a commercial airliner. As the world leader in easy-to-fly aerial photography tools, we strongly condemn the use of this technology in areas that conflict with the safe and normal operations of manned air traffic.”
