Major Tesla Hardware Revisions Can Be Expected Annually

The thing with cars is that because they tend to be more expensive than say buying a new phone or a computer that when you do buy a car, you’ll want a car that will probably last you for the next 5 years or even longer. Unfortunately if you were eyeing a Tesla, know that your purchase will definitely not be futureproofed.

In a recent tweet by Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk (via TechCrunch), it seems that the company plans on introducing major hardware revisions to their cars every 12-18 months. Musk’s tweet reads, “Tesla will never stop innovating. People are buying the wrong car if they expect this. There will be major revs every 12 to 18 months.”

We guess from an innovation point of view, it’s hard to fault Tesla for trying to push the envelope as much as they can, although we reckon that not many Tesla owners will be too thrilled by this. Imagine spending tens of thousands on a new Tesla car that was just announced, only to find out next year that a newer and much better model is available.

Granted other carmakers do introduce new models every year, but they tend to be small improvements here and there and nothing “major” unlike what Tesla is planning. We suppose we’ll have to wait and see how Tesla’s customers react to this.
