LG’s New Gram 14 Laptop Touts 21 Hours Of Battery Life

At the Consumer Electronics Show 2017, we’ve seen companies launch laptops that they claim to be the world’s fastest or the world’s lightest, LG is going in a slightly different direction. The company claims that its new Gram 14 laptop is capable of providing 21 hours of battery life while maintaining a balance between a very slim design and high-end performance.

The new LG Gram 14 laptop is quite similar to its predecessor since it also doesn’t feature a touchscreen display. It retains the predecessor’s weight and dimensions, the new laptop weighs just 2.16 pounds. That makes it the real lightest 14″ of CES, ahead of the ASUSPro B9440 (2.3 Lbs) and the Lenovo X1 Carbon 2017 (2.5 Lbs).

It now has a body fashioned out of nano carbon magnesium alloy, which feels a bit plastic – but that would explain its extreme light weight. New display technology enables the IPS panel to reach resolution and brightness benchmarks while being more efficient at the same time.

LG claims that the Gram 14 can provide 21 hours of battery life on a single charge. That’s a very ambitious claim and one that will certainly be put through its paces once LG releases this notebook. It would certainly be a big achievement if the product matches this claim because it feels a bit hard to believe otherwise.

The 14 inch notebook has an Intel Core i5 5200 processor with 8GB of DDR3L 1600 MHz RAM and128GB SSD storage. The company is yet to confirm when it’s going to start selling this laptop but when it does arrive it’s going to cost $850.

Interestingly enough, there are also 13″ (2.07 Lbs) and 15.6″ (2.41 Lbs) models that are also impressively light. I spotted similar computers from LG while in Korea, although I’m not 100% sure that they were the exact same models. In any case, it’s nice to see new options in the ultralight category.
