iPhone 8 Could Feature New Touch ID Technology

Recently a report from analyst Timothy Arcuri of Cowen and Company revealed that he expects 2017’s iPhone 8 to feature a wraparound display and new sensors. One of those new sensors would be Touch ID where due to the wraparound display, a new version of Touch ID will be required.

Turns out he’s not alone in his predictions because according to a new report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, it seems that he shares a similar belief as well. According to Kuo, he believes that Apple is expected to feature a new Touch ID sensor in the iPhone 8. He states that the new Touch ID system is expected to find its way under the panel of the display, which seems to be in line with earlier rumors that Apple could be ditching the home button.

He also suggests that Apple could be moving from a capacitive sensor to that of an optical sensor, but he says that because of the difficulty of manufacturing the technology, it might not necessarily debut with the iPhone 8, but it’s a feature we can expect in future iOS devices anyway.

However it seems that fingerprint security won’t be the only form of security Apple could employ. Kuo states that facial recognition could be a possibility where it will try to recognize the user’s entire face rather than just the iris, and that eventually Apple could ditch Touch ID for facial recognition instead.

Take it all with a grain of salt for now, but Kuo’s predictions have been pretty spot on all these years, so there could be some truth to his clams.
