This is also why it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that after less than half a year, Apple’s latest iOS 10 operating system has been installed on 76% of iOS devices. This is versus Google’s latest version of Android which last we heard, was found on 0.4% of Android devices. According to Apple’s figures, iOS 9 is still being used by 18% of iOS devices, while the remaining 6% are running older builds of iOS.
This is probably because some of these devices aren’t compatible with iOS 10, or if they are, they are choosing not to upgrade as it could potentially degrade performance, which is something that happened when iPhone 4S owners upgraded to iOS 9. Given that we’re still many, many months away from the next major iOS update, there’s a good chance that iOS 10’s install base could hit the high 80s or even 90s by that time.
