However it seems that HTC and Under Armour’s smartwatch efforts could soon be coming to fruition, thanks to a massive leak on Weibo in which a ton of photos were uploaded that shows off the alleged smartwatch in question. Based on the design alone there’s really not much to shout at and it is unclear as to what kind of features it will be packing, but it will be interesting to see if the wait all these years will be worth it.
In 2015, CNET spoke with HTC’s CEO Peter Chou in which he said that the company was being very careful with regards to their smartwatch efforts. He was quoted as saying, “We try to be very careful instead of just putting out whatever, so we keep working on it.” We guess it makes sense that HTC doesn’t want to be just another smartwatch in the market.
In fact HTC isn’t alone in trying to take it slow. Last year several major Android Wear OEMs decided to not to release new watches for 2016, with Motorola more or less taking a break from smartwatches for the foreseeable future. Needless to say these leaked photos should be taken with a grain of salt, but with MWC 2017 coming up we guess we might not have to wait too long to find out if these devices are the real deal.
