We’re going to see a lot of manufacturers ditch the standard 3.5mm headphone jack this year in favor of a USB Type-C port. Apple has already made a similar move and so have other smartphone manufacturers. Samsung is expected to go down this road with the Galaxy S8. Recent reports suggest that HTC is going to launch three new handsets soon and it’s now being said that at least two of these devices will ditch the headphone jack.
HTC hasn’t confirmed anything about its device plans for 2016 so far but reports claim that it’s going to launch three new devices in the very near future.
The company does have an event planned for January 12th where it’s going to talk about some new products. It’s highly likely that the new handsets will be introduced at this event.
HTC’s 2017 lineup is expected to feature the Ocean Note, the Alpine and the E66. The latest from Twitter leakster @onleaks suggests that both the Ocean Note and the Alpine will not feature the standard 3.5mm headphone jack while the E66 will have one on the top.
HTC will obviously ditch them in favor of a USB Type-C port which can do both, charge the device and also route audio through compatible headphones. While many dislike that this makes it impossible to charge the device and use wired headphones at the same time, it’s clear that the future has no space for a 3.5mm headphone jack.
