HTC confirmed a few weeks back that it’s going to conduct a press event on January 12th and that whatever it’s going to announce there is going to be all about “U.” That’s the only hint HTC has dropped so far so it’s unclear if the company will be launching new smartphones or if it’s going to reveal something about the next Vive virtual reality headset. What we do know is that there’s going to be a live stream for tomorrow’s event.
Recent rumors suggest that HTC is actually going to unveil two new smartphones at its event tomorrow, currently known by their codenames Ocean and Alpine. Some suggest that these handsets will be called HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play.
If a leak from yesterday is to be believed, the HTC U Ultra might have a secondary ticker display not unlike the one we’ve seen previously on the LG V10 and V20 flagships. It’s also claimed that both handsets have ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack in favor of a USB Type-C port.
No further information is available right now about the specs of these handsets and we don’t know anything about pricing and availability yet. HTC’s event starts at 8 AM GMT tomorrow and you can tune into the proceedings by watching the live stream on YouTube.
