HP is coming to CES with an updated version of its HP Sprout Pro computer launched a year ago , the first HP Sprout computer was unveiled back in 2014, featuring a built-in 3D projector with Intel RealSense-powered 3D/2D scanner, and a touch mat.
The main visible improvement is the design, the device looks sleeker and more elegant than the previous Sprout Pro model. The other significant improvements are the hardware update, and the new software, the whole workflow has changed. The new HP Sprout Pro G2 pricing and availability for businesses is expected in March 2017.
On the hardware side the main improvement is the new 21.3” diagonal Projected Touch Display with full HD resolution on the 20-point capacitive horizontal Touch Mat surface, which is a perfect match for the full HD resolution of the vertical display. The previous HP Sprout Pro model featured a lower 1024×768 resolution, so users were losing the scale when dragging any drawing or graphics from the full HD vertical display onto the horizontal Touch Mat (see the video). The 20-point 2.2 mm thick Touch Mat allows two sets of hands to interact with the projected display.
"ACCURATE PEN + HIGH RESOLUTION PROJECTED SCREEN + EASE OF SCAN = WINNER"The second significant update is the new HP Active Pen that features palm rejection and 2048 pressure levels. The previous pen, the Adonit Jot Pro, was passive with less pressure levels.
And finally, the second-generation Sprout Pro, the G2, has a new version of the Sprout Illuminator including a high-res FHD projector and 14 MP high-res downward facing camera. Sprout Illuminator acts both as a display projector and as a built-in 3D scanner.
On the software side, HP created a new physical button that brings up the Sprout apps used within Windows 10 Pro, that HP named “WorkTools” : camera, stage, show, control apps… Those apps appear at the bottom of the display without taking over the entire home screen, which was the case with the previous version of the HP Sprout Workspace that was running alongside Windows (see the video).
HP delivers an improved 3D scanning experience with a redesigned user interface for the HP 3D Scan Software Pro v5 application, and you can either use the built-in 3D scanner or a third-party 3D camera to scan objects (see demo).
Besides those major updates, the computer with integrated 3D scanner and 2.2 mm thick Touch Mat boasts the latest 7th generation Intel Core i7 processor, and NVIDIA GTX 960M graphic processor for fast 3D scanning, upgraded from the from NVIDIA GeForce 945A. Accurate Pen + High Resolution projected screen + ease of scan = winner.
