Honda Unveils A Self-Balancing Motorcycle

Maintaining your balance on a motorcycle at fast speeds is considerably easier compared to driving at slower speeds, especially if you own a particularly big and heavy motorcycle where balancing it at slower speeds might be tricky. However Honda wants to solve that problem by announcing their new Riding Assist technology.

You might assume that such technology would rely on the use of gyroscopes to determine and maintain the bike’s balance. However Honda claims that using gyroscopes will add unnecessary weight to the bike, which in turn affects the riding experience. This is why they have turned to the use of their own technology that was originally developed for the UNI-CUB personal mobility device.

The UNI-CUB was announced several years ago as a personal transportation device. While we have yet to see people zipping down the sidewalks on such devices, it seems that Honda has taken that technology and applied it for more practical use, such as in motorcycles. Unfortunately Honda did not mention when we might be able to start seeing Riding Assist debut in actual bikes, but for bike riders who are sick of having to replace dented or broken side mirrors, hopefully it won’t be too long of a wait.
