According to a new report, Eidos Montreal is working on a new Guardians of the Galaxy game. Fans of the Deus Ex franchise may not be too excited about this because it’s said that the developer has moved away from this franchise to focus on new projects. Eidos Montreal has reportedly canceled a sequel to Deus Ex: Mankind Divided which was released in 2016.
Square Enix owns the Canada-based Eidos Montreal studio which is best known for developing titles like Deus Ex: Human Revolution as well as Mankind Divided. It’s said to be working on two new games with one of them believed to be Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
The other game that the studio is reportedly working on is based on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. This is going to be the second game developed as part of the new multi-game partnership that Marvel recently confirmed with Square Enix. The first title is based on The Avengers and though that project is being led by Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal will be helping out with The Avengers game as well.
It’s claimed that Square Enix is not going to give the go-ahead for a new Deus Ex game at Eidos Montreal unless Mankind Divided becomes more profitable. Whether or not this will ever make enough business sense to the Japanese publisher remains to be seen, it already spent five years bankrolling Mankind Divided, one can understand why it would want to focus its resources elsewhere now.
