However Apple seems to be going away with the MagSafe cable with its new laptops, but not to worry as Griffin’s got you covered. Announced at CES 2017, the accessory maker announced the BreakSafe Hi-Power Breakaway cable for the MacBook Pro. This is actually a follow up to last year’s BreakSafe cable, with the main difference that this is a high-powered cable.
What does this mean? Basically last year’s model was good enough to charge the 12-inch MacBook, but it wasn’t powerful enough to charge the new MacBook Pros that require 87W of power, and the cable was only capable of putting out 60W. By bumping it up to 100W with this particular model, users will be able to use it to charge their MacBook Pros without any issue.
Unfortunately in the process Griffin seems to have sacrificed the design of the cable as it doesn’t look quite as sleek as its predecessor. However if function over form is your belief, then we guess it shouldn’t be an issue. The cable is expected to be released in Q2 2017 where it will be priced at $40.
