Google introduced its new Daydream virtual reality platform last year. Its Pixel smartphones were the first Daydream-ready smartphones that were launched late last year alongside the Daydream View virtual reality headset. Other manufacturers will be able to support this platform as well and Google has highlighted a couple of new devices that have joined the Daydream family.
There aren’t a lot of smartphones on the market right now that are Daydream-ready. Your options are largely limited to the Pixel or the Moto Z. However, that’s surely going to change in the coming months as more Daydream-ready handsets make their way to the market.
In a post on its official blog, Google has highlighted four new devices that will soon join the Daydream family, they include the ZTE Axon 7, Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9, Huawei Mate 9 Pro and the ASUS Zenfone AR.
Huawei has two smartphones on this list and it’s also has a Daydream-ready virtual reality headset in the pipeline that’s going to be launched later this year. The headset has an adjustable focus so it can be used without spectacles and it provides a 95° field of view.
Google has gradually been releasing new Daydream-compatible apps as well to support the nascent platform. 2017 is certainly going to be the year in which we see Daydream evolve as a proper VR platform.
