It has been consistently rumored for several years now that Samsung is going to release a foldable smartphone at some point in the future. The company has demonstrated its ability to make a foldable display time and again but the foldable smartphone has remained nothing more than a concept. Samsung is now expected to go forward with this plan in 2017 with its foldable smartphone release said to take place by the third or the fourth quarter of this year.
Samsung hasn’t said anything itself about future plans for a foldable smartphone. The company hasn’t even confirmed if it’s building such a smartphone despite the fact that it has countless patents relating to such devices.
Then again, just because a company has patents for a device doesn’t mean that it’s going to actually make that into a product. However, recent reports are quite bullish on the sentiment that the Samsung foldable smartphone release is finally going to take place in this year.
The latest whispers out of China will have you believe that Samsung is lining up the launch of its foldable smartphone, codenamed Galaxy X, in either Q3 or Q4 of 2017. No further details about the handset are available at this point in time but if it’s really due later this year then we should expect to hear more leaks and rumors about it in the months to come.
