Late last month, Elon Musk tweeted about an idea that came to him while he was stuck in traffic. He thought it would be a nice idea to build tunnels in order to circumvent surface traffic. Now it’s not like most of us haven’t thought of the same thing when we’re stuck in traffic but the big difference between us and Musk is that if he dreams up such a crazy idea, he actually has the resources at his disposable to go ahead with them and that’s precisely what he appears to be doing with his “Boring Company.”
Elon Musk tweeted today that he’s making “exciting progress” on his tunnel plans. This obviously led to many of his followers asking for more information about these plans. In response to “So you were serious? Like seriously serious?” from one of his followers, Musk replied “Yup.”
It appears that, for now, Musk is going to dig a tunnel to cut down on his travel time between SpaceX and LAX. He’s going to start digging from near his office at SpaceX. Crenshaw and the 105 freeway which is located around five minutes from the Los Angeles Airport.
Why LAX? It’s an airport he tends to visit quite often given that he has way too much on his plate with SpaceX and Tesla.
There are obviously more serious questions that remain unanswered, such as whether homes will be displaced for this tunnel and just how big it’s going to be. I guess we’ll find that out soon enough.
Exciting progress on the tunnel front. Plan to start digging in a month or so.
