Canada To Get Drone Delivery Service By End Of 2017

It’s starting to look like drone delivery will be a thing we can look forward to in the future. Around the world various countries and companies are testing out drones to deliver the mail, deliver packages, deliver blood, and so on, which is why it isn’t surprising to learn that over in Canada, a company calling themselves Drone Delivery Canada is looking to bring that service to the country.

The company is expected to start testing out its fleet in Alberta where the company hopes to eventually establish a robotic cargo service by the end of the year. The company has chosen Alberta as its testing ground due to the wide open spaces, at least that’s according to the company’s CEO Tony di Benedetto.

According to di Benedetto, “It allows us to test beyond visual… So actually flying the drone beyond out ground station operator’s visibility of the drone, which we’re not capable of doing in Southern Ontario. Eventually as the technology further develops, and we move it closer to more of an urbanized area, then potentially you could see drones delivering to your doorstep. It’s not that far-fetched. It’s happening around the world.”

So far they have been trying out their deliveries with 10-pound packages with drones up in the air for an hour at a time, with hopes that they’ll be soon be able to move to making commercial deliveries.
