When Deadpool was released last year, it seemed to have set new standards for superhero movies in which it became the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever, which in turn inspired other movies to adopt a similar style, or at least that’s what we were told. This is also why it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that Deadpool also turned out to be 2016’s most pirated movie.
This is according to a report from TorrentFreak who reported that the movie was pirated more times than any other movie in the year, which we’re guessing is probably not doing any favors for its sales, although Deadpool can now join the ranks of other highly-pirated shows, such as Game of Thrones and Amazon’s “The Grand Tour”, which apparently managed to beat out Game of Thrones.
That being said, all of this just goes to show how much demand there is for the film, and as you might have heard, a sequel is already in the works. However it will no longer see the return of director Tim Miller, so it will be interesting to see if Deadpool 2 will be able to continue the success of its predecessor.
Other highly-pirated movies of 2016 include Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in second place, Captain America: Civil War in third, Star Wars: The Force Awakens in fourth, and X-Men Apocalypse in fifth.
