It hasn’t been a year since Microsoft added support for its Band 2 wearable to Cortana for Android. The company has now decided that there’s no reason to keep it around anymore so it has decided to drop support for the Band 2 wearable from Cortana on Android. This goes to show that Microsoft is more or less done with the idea of making and selling wearable fitness trackers, at least for now.
Microsoft has released an updated version of the Cortana for Android application which mentions this change in its patch notes. “Using Cortana with Microsoft Band 2 is no longer supported in Cortana app version 2.1.5 and later for Android,” reads the changelog.
The Band 2 wearable from Microsoft was launched to good reviews but not many consumers picked one up, either because they found the $249.99 price too high or the battery life below par. Microsoft stopped selling this device back in October last year and hasn’t said anything since about a new wearable fitness band.
The latest version of the Cortana app gives users the ability to change the personal digital assistant’s color in Settings. Microsoft also says that the app is now faster and better than before with meeting retrieval speed particularly being improved by 20 percent.
Microsoft is also said to be testing a new feature for Cortana for Android which will put the digital assistant on the lock screen. This feature is expected to be released via a future app update.
