[CES 2017] BACtrack is a company that some of you guys might be familiar with as they are the ones who make portable breathalyzer devices. This is ideal if you’re going out for drinks and you want to find out if you’re within the legal limits of driving yourself home. However if you’d rather not carry the device around and blow into it all the time, there’s an alternative.
Dubbed the BACtrack Skyn, this is an accessory designed to be worn together with a smartwatch like the Apple Watch. Basically it is a monitoring device that tries to measure your blood alcohol levels and display the information in real-time on your Apple Watch. This makes it more ideal than a regular breathalyzer in which you will only know the results after you blow into it, while the Skyn is supposed to be constantly monitoring you.
If you’re wondering why this sounds familiar, it is because the Skyn was actually announced back in 2016 as part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Wearable Biosensor Challenge, and now it looks like the device is ready for consumer usage. The Skyn is expected to be priced at $99 and will be released in summer, making it a relatively inexpensive device to carry around, especially you’re the sort that drinks pretty regularly.
