Last year you might have recalled that Atari announced their plans to return to the hardware scene. The company did not dive into details but stated that they were going to create smart home gadgets that rely on IoT technology, and it seems that we could soon be seeing the fruits of their labor.
In a post on NeoGAF (via Just Push Start), it seems that Atari has sent out a teaser for an upcoming announcement. As you can see in the screenshot above, it is for something called the “Game Band” and with Atari’s logo being displayed so prominently on the wrist, it has led to speculation that the announcement could be some kind of wrist-based gaming product.
At this point it’s really anyone’s guess as to what this product might be, how it might be used, and where it might be used. However it is interesting to see what Atari can come up with. Atari won’t be the first gaming company to launch wrist-based wearables. Razer themselves have launched the Nabu wearable, although it was more of a fitness tracking device than a gaming device.
In any case it sounds like based on the email, the announcement will be taking place on the 1st of February, 2017, so do check back with us then to see what Atari has in store for us.
