Amazon’s digital personal assistant Alexa can be found everywhere at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017. Gone are the days when it was just limited to Amazon’s Echo smart speakers. Alexa can now be found in smartphones, cars, and even refrigerators. It continues to become more capable as well. Alexa can now respond to your voice command and order takeout from Amazon Restaurants.
Alexa can now be used to place a takeout order from any of Amazon’s affiliated Restaurants. There are a couple of caveats, though.
For starters, this feature is only available to Amazon Prime members. You need to subscribe to this $99 per year program or get a monthly subscription before you are allowed to place takeout orders using Alexa.
The second big limitation is that users can’t order anything new. They can only use Alexa to reorder meals that they’ve previously had. So if you ask Alexa to order a pizza from Amazon Restaurants, it will suggest restaurants and list the takeout meals ordered previously. You then need to pick one and Alexa will do its thing by ordering it for you and having it sent to your default address.
This feature is only available in select U.S. cities at this point in time, such as Seattle, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Manhattan. No word as yet on when Amazon will expand it to other cities.
