According to a post on Apple’s support forums, “AirPods pair correctly with iPhone 6s Plus (iOS 10.2) and randomly during the call they get disconnected. The BT connection gets lost and I have to connect them again manually. Happens several times during long calls with no apparent pattern. The AirPods are fully charged. The strange thing is that while listening to music, this problem doesn’t show up, only on phone calls.”
Some users are reporting that this happens once every hour, while others are plagued by the problem more frequently at once a minute, which we can only imagine how annoying or frustrating it must be. The good news is that it seems that Apple has acknowledged the issue and are looking into it, so hopefully a solution will come along soon.
In the meantime it looks like the majority of users who are reporting this issue are those who are using the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, although there are several iPhone 7 owners who are facing similar problems as well.
