Turns out it was a pretty good move because according to the Resident Evil 7 global statistics page (via Attack of the Fanboy), it has been revealed that nearly 10% of all Resident Evil 7 gamers are playing the game on the PlayStation VR. To be more specific, the stats show 9.52% which is still just as encouraging not only for Capcom, but for Sony and the virtual reality market in general.
Based on the number of players, which is over 900,000, this means a little over 85,000 players are playing the game in VR and on the PlayStation VR. As it stands, the PlayStation VR is the only supported VR headset. This is despite the fact that Resident Evil 7 is available for the PC which has access to headsets like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, but who knows, maybe support for those headsets could come at a later date.
In the meantime Capcom has boasted that they have managed to ship over 2.5 million copies of the game, but whether those are shipments to retailers or to consumers was not made clear.
