Windows 10 Blue Screen Of Death Being Replaced

If you’ve used Windows at any point in your life then you might be familiar with the Blue Screen of Death which appears when the OS crashes. It has been a staple on Windows for many, many years but it looks like Microsoft is going to use a different color for the crash screen. The latest leaked Windows 10 build actually has a Green Screen of Death instead of the blue one that we’ve all grown used to, but it may just be limited to the beta builds.

Windows 10 build 14997 leaked online earlier this week. The build revealed that Microsoft is soon going to add a blue light filter to the OS and it also revealed that a new Game Mode is being developed which will enhance gaming performance on Windows 10-powered machines.

Twitter user Chris123NT discovered the change while putting the leaked build through its paces. Microsoft employee Matthijs Hoekstra later confirmed that Windows Insider program members are indeed seeing a Green Screen of Death instead of the blue one.

The company hasn’t really gone into the details of why it made this change but it likely has something to do with how the company identifies problems and genuine Blue Screen of Death crashes. Since many Insider program members write about these problems on social media or blogs, the color change will help Microsoft easily identify the problem and work on a fix.

Whether or not the company expands this change to the public versions of Windows 10 remains to be seen.
