Have you ever sent a message on WhatsApp only to wish moments after that you had a way to revoke it? There are many cross-platform messaging services that offer this feature but WhatsApp is not one of them but it appears that it may soon join that list. A new beta of the messaging app shows that the WhatsApp revoke message feature might soon be rolled out to the billion-plus people who use this service to stay in touch with their friends and family.
WhatsApp users can only revoke or delete messages on their own devices right now. They can remove the message from their device but they’re unable to do anything to stop the recipient from reading it.
The beta feature will enable users to revoke or even edit a message that has already been sent. The recipient will presumably get to see that a message has been revoked or edited but at least it would save the sender some embarrassment. This feature is likely going to extend to pictures and videos shared using WhatsApp as well.
It’s unclear at this point in time when WhatsApp is going to roll out this feature to all of its users. It goes without saying that many would like it to do that as soon as possible.
