The company has announced that by the end of the year, they will no longer support older devices, which in turn also means older platforms that are running on these older devices. This means that if you have a device running on Android 2.1 and 2.2, Windows Phone 7, or iOS 6 (or the iPhone 3GS), WhatsApp will no longer work with your devices.
This is because of all the new features that WhatsApp has implemented that may not work with older devices. WhatsApp had actually announced their plans earlier this year, so this is a reminder of sorts just in case you have yet to upgrade. Also WhatsApp has made some slight changes as they have decided to continue supporting BBOS and BlackBerry 10 devices until mid-2017, where the previous plan was to support it until the end of the year.
Like we said, there’s a good chance many of us have upgraded our devices to more modern handsets that are supported by the platform, but just in case you haven’t, you’ll want to look into it ASAP.
