Uber has been working hard to reimagine the ride experience for millions of users who rely on the service to get from one place to the other. It has realized that riders are more than just going somewhere, most of the times they are going somewhere to meet someone. That’s why it’s now allowing users to Uber directly to a person. That’s not all, it has teamed up with Snapchat to provide riders with custom filters that they can use during the ride.
This new feature enables users to Uber directly to a person in their contacts. This eliminates the need to juggle locations and addresses with friends. All users need to do is sync their contacts with the Uber app and type their friend’s name in the “Where to?” box.
Their friend will then receive a request from Uber to provide their current static location. Once the friend accepts, that location is used as the destination for the Uber ride. The rider’s ETA is shared with the friend.
The Snapchat integration enables rides to unlock custom Uber filters as they ride. These include ETA filters that can be used to inform friends of the estimated arrival time or mystery filters that can be used to add a special effect to the snaps.
Existing Snapchat users on an Uber ride will see a Snap card in their feed, they just need to select the type of filter they want to unlock, take a selfie, and swipe right. It’s that easy.
