The way things are designed in Japan is pretty amazing in the sense that they seem to have thought of everything. Even things you didn’t think you needed suddenly become items you just can’t live without. So much so that over in Tokyo’s Narita airport, local carrier NTT DoCoMo has installed reams of “toilet paper” for your smartphone.
Wait, what? Yup if you’re flying to Tokyo’s Narita airport anytime soon, you’ll notice that in the toilets there will be rolls of paper installed alongside regular toilet paper. These rolls of paper have a few different functions, one of which is to act as a wipe for your smartphone’s screen, and the second is welcome visitors to Japan and offer up information like how to connect to the WiFi, travel information, and translation services.
Like we said this is definitely something you never thought you would need, and it is also information that can be delivered just as well using a signboard or posters along the walls, but at the same time it’s such a great (and novel) idea. Obviously this is a bit of a PR stunt for the folks at NTT DoCoMo, but why not, right?
Unfortunately it will not be a permanent installation as it will be limited to 86 toilets in Narita and will run until the 15th of March, 2017. Kind of gives Google’s mini smartphone sweaters a run for its money, don’t you think?
