A Tesla owner recently tweeted a complaint to CEO Elon Musk about some owners keeping their cars parked at the company’s Supercharger stations even after their cars had been fully charged. This obviously irks other owners who just want to quickly charge their electric cars and be on their way. Musk said last week that the company is going to do something about it and now Tesla has confirmed it’s going to charge $0.40 per minute to those who hog a Supercharger after their car has been charged.

Tesla has introduced this new fee in a bid to deter people from hogging Supercharger stations. The aim is to increase turnover at the charging stations which continue to become crowded as more and more Teslas take to the roads.

The company says that owners will have five minutes to disconnect and move their cars once they have finished charger. If they don’t do that, they will be charged $0.40 per minute as long as the car is connected to the Supercharger.

“We hope to never make any money from it,” the company writes in a post on its blog while announcing that the fee has gone into effect immediately. It says that this decision has been made to increase customer happiness.

What if the charging bays are deserted, would owners be charged then? Musk clarified via Twitter that the fee will only be charged if most bays are occupied. “If the site is basically deserted, no problem to park,” he added.
