As you might have heard, BlackBerry has announced that they will no longer be making their own smartphones, instead they will be outsourcing that to other manufacturers who might also want to use the BlackBerry branding to get themselves into the smartphone market. In fact just recently it was confirmed that Chinese company TCL will be the one responsible for future handsets.
The good news is that if you wanted to see what BlackBerry handsets TCL has up their sleeves, you might not have to wait too long. In a post on Twitter by President and General Manager of TCL North America Steve Cistulli, he seemed to have confirmed (via PocketNow) that TCL will be announcing new BlackBerry devices at CES 2017.
His tweet reads, “Very exciting news. Can’t wait to share more at #CES2017 #TheNewBlackBerry”. CES 2017 will be kicking off in the early part of January 2017, which means that we only have a couple of weeks left before the details of the TCL and BlackBerry’s plans are revealed. It is unclear as to what kind of phones we can expect, but if you are a fan of BlackBerry devices then this should be worth looking forward to.
TCL is not a name that’s new in the mobile industry. The company is behind handsets from Alcatel and in more recent times, have actually made BlackBerry phones like the DTEK50 and DTEK60, so they have some experience there, although we are curious to see if they have anything else in the works that could help the BlackBerry brand become competitive again.
