The Pixel is the first smartphone that’s “Made by Google” and it appears to be performing very well ever since it was released a couple of months ago. Google is selling this handset unlocked and off-contract via the Play Store but it has made it exclusive to Verizon in the United States. There’s nothing stopping someone from buying it from Google and using it on T-Mobile. Magenta has been taking advantage of it and it appears that the carrier is going to bump it up a notch and starting displaying the Google Pixel in its retail stores.
Google has given Verizon exclusivity on the Pixel which means no other carrier can sell it in its stores. However, since the handset works perfectly on T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network, Magenta is giving customers half off the Pixel’s price in the form of bill credits, all they need to do is activate the device on T-Mobile.
According to a new report, T-Mobile is going to start displaying the Google Pixel in its stores even though it won’t sell the device in the store or online. If a customer inquires about the phone, the salesperson would direct them to the Play Store or Best Buy where they can get the device unlocked and off-contract. The customer will also be informed about T-Mobile’s Pixel promotion and hopefully that would be enough to convince the customer that they need to bring their Pixel over to T-Mobile.
T-Mobile hasn’t officially announced that it’s going to do this but the report suggests that this might be made official in the near future.
