According to the stats, Nintendo’s Super Mario Run app for iOS was downloaded a whopping 2.85 million times in its first day. It also managed to become the top “Top Grossing” app on the iTunes App Store, which safe to say means that Nintendo could have pulled in the big bucks, right?
The official numbers have yet to be released, but a report from SensorTower (via Nintendo Everything) suggests that on its first day itself, the app has managed to rake in a whopping $5 million in revenue. It should be noted that SensorTower’s numbers are different from the previous report in which they claim that the game saw 5 million downloads on the first day.
Either way even if we were to take the average of both numbers, those are still a lot of numbers and as you can see in the graph above, the game has managed to make more money than some of the other big hitters out there like Pokemon GO and Clash Royale. However whether or not Nintendo can sustain this growth remains to be seen.
Super Mario Run will let users play the first three levels for free, after which they’ll have to pay $10 to unlock the rest of the levels. Besides the unlocking fee, there are no in-app purchases, unlike other games such as Pokemon GO or Clash Royale.
