So how many downloads are we looking at? According to the folks at Apptopia (via The Verge), they claim that within the first day of being made available, Super Mario Run was downloaded a whopping 2.85 million times. This beats out other popular games like Pokemon GO which saw 900,000 downloads on its first day.
However to be fair, Pokemon GO saw a staggered release, while Super Mario Run was available in 150 countries at launch. It is unclear as to how many Super Mario Run downloads resulted in in-app purchases to fully unlock the game (first three levels are free, after that you’ll have to pay $10 to unlock everything else), but it must have been enough to get it to the top of the “Top Grossing” charts.
We’re not sure if the game will see the momentum or craze that Pokemon GO experienced, but so far reviews have been largely positive, with the negatives mainly stemming from the fact that it requires an always-on connection and the $10 price tag.
